My father went to West Point, and my father in-law served in Vietnam. I have also had the honor of knowing and working with many Vets on set, as the film industry’s many similarities to the military still awes me to this day. None of this was more apparent than working on The Keeper. A small production, but a show that had everything it needed. The Vets and members of the hiking community who served as the backbone of this movie - some of which had never stepped foot on a set before - put all of themselves into making this film, and their heart is tangible in every single frame of that story. It’s why I love independent filmmaking. It’s why I love those who served to build something future generations would benefit from.

But there will always be scars - both external and internal. Which is why we celebrate today, and why George Eshleman hiked the Appalachian Trail with 363 name tapes. The battle continues, but we’re never alone. The Keeper, it’s profound message, and the hard work of all the people who poured their hearts into it (and the reason for it), is now available to watch on Amazon Prime.

In a world of streaming and options to have visual media instantly distributed online, it’s such a thrill to be able to go to a theater and see your work projected on the big screen. It’s one of the reasons I pursue this art in the first place. Thank you @thekeeper.movie for rejuvenating my love of the theater, and congrats to all of the cast and crew that made it possible!

New Narrative Reel! As artists who pour themselves into every small detail of their creations, it can be a real challenge sometimes to pick the “best” of your work. But for me it’s rather a trip back in time - a reminder of why you make art in the first place, and the fantastic relationships that came from it. I’d like to thank everyone in my ever-growing film family, without which these images wouldn’t exist.

9pm in LA, which means the sun is just coming up in Rwanda - some of the most beautiful sunrises imaginable. Here’s one early wake up that was worth every second, especially with @dzofilm and their Vespid prime lenses - scroll to the end for the result.

Trying to capture a scene in a tight space like a tent is not always comfortable or flexible in the realm of cinematography. Being able to squeeze lights, sound, actors, props, and a larger camera body like an Arri inside is always part of the fun of the puzzle. But it definitely helps if the the scene is supposed to feel uncomfortable in the first place, and the close-quarters almost guarantees an intimate, emotional moment. Special thanks to the rain, for giving us a great background element, and to @angusbenfieldofficial and @kendall_bryant_jr for letting us shoot tight and handheld, haha.
